Christopher Friez practices in the firm's Natural Resources Department. He joined the firm in 2009 after practicing with Fleck, Mather & Strutz, Ltd. in Bismarck, North Dakota, since 2006. Prior to practicing with Fleck, Mather & Strutz, Ltd. he served as law clerk to the Honorable Chief Justice Gerald W. VandeWalle of the Supreme Court of North Dakota. During his third year of law school he served as an intern to the North Dakota Legislative Council during the 2005 Legislative Assembly which provided valuable experience into all aspects of the legislative process.
Mr. Friez practices primarily in the natural resources area, with a major focus on oil, gas, coal and other energy. He has extensive experience in title examination and has prepared numerous drilling title opinions and division order title opinions. He also maintains a probate and estate planning and has experience conducting probates and drafting wills and trusts. Mr. Friez also has experience executing all aspects of real estate transactions and other commercial transactions. In addition, he has experience in governmental affairs and lobbying, agriculture, and other general legal practice.
Mr. Friez is a member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, American Association of Petroleum Landmen, Landman’s Association of North Dakota, the State Bar Association of North Dakota (Real Property and Probate Section and Young Lawyer's Section), the American Bar Association (Natural Resources Section), the Big Muddy Bar Association, and the Bruce M. Van Sickle Inn of the American Inns of Court. He authored and published a note on North Dakota’s campaign finance laws in the North Dakota Law Review while in law school. Mr. Friez serves as a member of the Special Institutes Committee of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation. Mr. Friez is a contributing author to the Annual Report on Oil and Gas Legal Developments published in the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation Journal and American Bar Association Year in Review series.
