Michael Green is a Senior Counsel in the Helena office and has been with the firm for more than 25 years. He has served on the firm’s executive committee for over seven years, contributing to pivotal decision-making processes and providing leadership in firm-wide management responsibilities.
A member of the Employment Practice Group, Mike’s practice encompasses regulatory, labor and employment, and tax law, with a primary focus on the latter. As the partner responsible for the firm’s exempt entity practice, Mike actively works on the creation and operation of tax-exempt organizations, which includes forming these entities, advising on optimal structures, management, and assisting in establishing federal and state exemptions.
In labor and employment, Mike predominantly provides management-side employment advice, handling administrative claims and offering consulting services to clients of all sizes and stages of development. He acts as outside general counsel, maintaining close client contact and coordinating counsel for litigation when necessary, although he generally does not engage directly in litigation.
In regulatory matters, Mike serves as outside counsel for an investor-owned utility company in Montana, navigating regulatory proceedings before the Montana Public Service Commission. He is deeply involved in the energy and regulatory space, and often sought out for lobbying efforts during legislative sessions. His involvement extends to drafting legislation, negotiating with the executive branch, and active lobbying.
Mike has been president and chair of the board at the Montana Higher Education Student Assistance Corporation (MHESAC) for more than 15 years. MHESAC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving its borrowers and safeguarding the integrity of its financial structure to ensure ongoing funding for Reach Higher Montana. Access to education is deeply important to Mike, and through his leadership, he has played a crucial role in supporting the organization’s mission, ensuring it continues to provide valuable assistance to students pursuing higher education in his home state.
For more than 25 years Mike has been a part of the Crowley Fleck team. He started his career in law as a summer clerk and has immense pride in being part of the firm’s growth during that time.
In his free time, Mike loves to spend time enjoying Montana’s outdoors with his wife and their three children.
