Kurt Shanahan is an Associate in the Billings office and a member of the Energy and Environmental Practice Group. Kurt splits his practice between oil and gas title work, mining clients, and natural resources and environmental permitting and appeals. As part of his title opinions work, he is responsible for reviewing county records to track changes in ownership for mineral interests and estates. He also conducts regulatory work for his clients.

Kurt enjoys the challenges within his practice and learning about the history and the science behind the land he represents. He notes that accuracy is key to his practice and his background in history feeds his passion for research. Prior to attending law school at the University of Montana School of Law, Kurt worked for the National Park Service and the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Kurt has been with Crowley Fleck since 2022 and is admitted to practice law in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming. He is a member of the Environment, Energy, and Resources Section of the American Bar Association, as well as The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law.

In his free time, Kurt enjoys hiking, golfing, playing rugby and hockey, and exploring Montana’s great outdoors.
