Luke Poteat is an Associate in the Commercial & Natural Resources Litigation and Energy & Environmental Practice Groups. He enjoys assisting clients on a variety of matters relating to environmental compliance and permitting, hard-rock mining, oil and gas, CWA, NEPA, CERCLA, FLPMA, and RCRA.
After his first year of law school, Luke spent a summer working on a ranch in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. That opportunity strengthened his commitment to a career in energy and environmental law, which he continued to develop during his time working at the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Department of Toxic Substances Control. Luke also worked as a Summer Associate for Crowley Fleck and as a Law Clerk in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California.
Luke approaches his practice with compassion and empathy, striving to both understand the challenges that others face and find solutions that serve his clients and the community. His goal is always to listen first, act second.
Beyond his practice, Luke spends his free time exploring the Northern Rockies and his native Southwest with his family and friends. If he is not in the mountains, you can probably find Luke following his Chicago Cubs or coaching undergraduate mock trial. He also volunteers with the American Mock Trial Association.
