Jacob Dillon is a Partner in the Billings office and a member of the Energy and Environmental Practice Group. Jacob has a diverse transactional and litigation practice, focused on energy and natural resources, generally, and oil and gas, mining, and Indian law, specifically. Jacob has extensive title examination experience – frequently drafting title opinions and advising clients on oil and gas and other mineral title issues. He also manages and conducts complex due diligence for mining clients in conjunction with their acquisition and disposition of mineral assets. Jacob also litigates and advises clients on complex Indian law issues. Jacob finds his work in tribal cases incredibly rewarding because it often involves addressing novel issues and setting new precedents. This opportunity to create change and improve the law makes his Indian law practice particularly fulfilling.
In addition to his day-to-day practice, Jacob also prioritizes pro-bono cases. He often mediates complex custody disputes and helps parents build solid foundations for their children amid disruption. Additionally, he has also represented parents in Court in conjunction with the same.
While in law school, Jacob interned for the City Attorney’s Office for Spokane Valley, Washington. There, he drafted legal ordinances, analyzed constitutional issues, and worked on a diverse range of municipal issues.
In his free time, Jacob, who is also passionate about wildlife conservation and public access issues, is an avid sportsman and can often be found in the mountains hunting elk and in Alaska fishing for salmon and halibut. He loves being outdoors and also enjoys hiking, backpacking, skiing, and landscape and wildlife photography.
